Mismaloya is about fifteen minutes south of Puerto Vallarta. It's mostly a stretch of coast with some hotels and some interesting geographical features.
The two peculiar-looking rocks at right are known as Los Arcos. Natural tidal erosion has given the smaller, closer rock a noticeably arching shape.
Around the corner from these guys is El Eden, a tropical forest preserve made famous by the movie Predator.
At the end of a long bumpy dirt road is a small resort center featuring family-oriented pools and waterfalls. This is a pleasant spot for a picnic. Beyond this is where the real wilderness begins. The trail follows the river (as trails tend to do) for miles through the jungle. All the way up the valley are refreshing waterfalls and pools, quite similar to the river through Kalalau Valley.
Heading south along the coastal carretera for another ten minutes is the mellow, laid-back beachside town of Boca de Tomatlan, one of the best places to take a boat trip to Yelapa. Check it out!
