A couple of warning signs spelled out a release of liability for trespassers on this sketchy bridge. Despite the condition of the planks, the structure of the bridghe is quite solid.

Random Adventures!

At the end of a day of motorcycling the curvy Gilman Road from Ellery Creek Campground over to Shasta Dam and back. The best part is that for many many miles I saw not even a single vehicle in either direction. I had the countryside to myself!

San Juan to St. Thomas by Seaplane

Caribbean > Caribbean

One way to get to St. Thomas from San Juan, Puerto Rico is by amphibious aircraft. We've had several great experiences with Seaborne Airlines and highly recommend them. Tickets are usually $80 - $100 USD and the trip is awesome.

On the way to the U.S. Virgin Islands a string of jewel-like Caribbean islands roll by below. Taking off and landing on water is very smooth— none of that horrible jolting when wheels meet asphalt. It's hard to tell when the floats actually touch the water. Seaplanes also operate at much lower altitudes than commercial jet aircraft, closer to the vista and the action.

Shootin’ Through Glass

The only unfortunate part of this exciting episode is that I had to shoot through the window much like up on the London Eye. This affects the exposure, color quality and detail. Despite this, the photos came out nice.

Above, Isla Verde is the main beach in San Juan. Exactly one week before this flight we were jet-skiing in front of those same hotels. In the upper left is the airport.

Puerto Rico was very green and scenic. From the air it looks like a vast garden.

Out Over the Caribbean

Islands started right away. The ocean was a transparent blue and boats buzzed all around in silent slow-motion, leaving white wispy wakes. A few islands were habitated, but most were not. On another day, I'd like to rent a sailboat or motor boat and check out these islands in more depth, like diving or snorkeling depth.

Arriving in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Charlotte Amalie is spread out along the curve of the bay. The plane wisked us in and deposited us in the harbor area. The next leg is grabbing the ferry to St. John so we can camp out for a week in Cinnamon Bay.
