Sedona has a nifty airport that sits aloft a low rise between the two halves of the town. So we scheduled a helicopter tour of the canyons to the north of Sedona. The cute girl who made the third in our party raved about the biplane flight. It's probably the best reason to have a bad hair day. So, remember to check out both flights when you get there, okay? The planes don't fly as low as the helicopters, but it's a pretty fast ride.
Okay, so we headed west out of the airport and skirted town and the high school before heading north. A couple of resorts are nestled into canyons on the way up but otherwise the land is in pristine condition. We followed a large valley up until it split into the smaller valleys we flew through.
Exotic locations at great prices! Built by Salado people about 600 years ago. This one on the right here is a gem. It's probably been rebuilt many tmes, but will ya look at the view? It's a large 1-room house with a separate 1-bedroom cottage dwelling. Both need a roof and some TLC. The bath is outside but it seems to have dried up the last millennium, which is why it's under a million. Parcel includes the immediate grounds and area in the vicinity you can defend with stone tools. The remote and defensible position will certainly endear it to an isolationist, survivalist, Unabomber, agoraphobic or telecommuter.
We counted seven brick structures in five strategic locations. In one instance a brick wall was used to close up a large cave entrance. However remote the location or harsh the conditions might appear, possibly only as recent as a few hundred years ago the climate might have been more moist. Water may have been still trickling over the cliffs as stain patterns indicate. Women washing babies, men lugging kill up the steep hill, kids playing about. Absent is the lifestyle-sustaining ingredient now.
