Kauai > Hawaii > United States
On this DailyVenture we took a helicopter out of the Port Allen Airport near Hanapepe. Up through Waimea Canyon and out over the amazing Na Pali Coast we flew. Haena Point and Hanalei Bay are at the apex of our journey. On the way back we cruised Waialeale mountain in all her magnificence.
As a kama'aina of Hawai'i for 20 years and having hiked all over the Islands, Kaua'i continually astounds me. These amazing views via helicopter are a tribute to its distinct flavors. I snapped away like a shameless tourist, salivating over this delicious spectacle. The birds have it so well. Everything was immensely lush and green. Kaua'i is indeed la crème de la crème of Hawaiian-brand tropical beauty. Majestic and luxurious. Ancient, yet vital and exuberant. It's one of those very special places that appeals to the sacred respect for the Earth in every human being.
The trickle that carved the Canyon meandered below amidst the moist garden. Above, red dusty ridges like scraped knees. Everywhere the intricate detail of abundant foliage.
While the Grand Canyon in the Southwest is immensely vast and visually staggering, Waimea Canyon is significantly more attractive and feminine.
As you can see, the Canyon drips lush tropical jungle. Flying through the canyon was exhilirating. The passenger windows were open and the unobstructed view of the scenery permitted clean shots, although we were always in motion and the chopper's chassis vibrated from the engine. Despite these adverse conditions the images came out nice, as they did on our helicopter excursion over Sedona.
