The Alaska - British Columbia Border

This is the original border between Alaska and British Columbia (International U.S. and Canada border) strategically installed during the Gold Rush of 1898. Adjacent to White Pass Summit at an altitude of 2,865, mounties braved brutal winters to ensure that incoming stampeders had the necessary 1 ton of supplies to survive for a year in the north. Nowadays Fraser acts as the official entry point into Canada, and down on the Klondike Highway about 9 miles from Skagway is the border station for entrance into the United States.
