True to its name, the town of Beaune and its countryside are certainly beautiful, but that was evident on the train ride from Paris long before we even reached Dijon, where we stopped and rented a car.

Cherry Trees, Dijon
After strolling about in Dijon we nabbed a sandwich and drove out into the countryside to eat. Down the road a bit we found a spot in a fruit orchard near some vineyards and ate lunch.
Sated, we drove south through the heart of Burgundy via Nuits St. Georges and Ladoix Serrigny to get to Beaune. All along the way were stunning vistas seemingly unchanged for centuries.

Notre Dame, Beaune
Beaune is a quaint, charming jewel-of-a-town in the midst of a medieval countryside. Delicious restaurants, old cathedral, good shopping, pleasant accommodations and lots of sincere town character. The area had such an impact on us that we have since contemplated moving to the Burgundy countryside.

One day we drove south and spent the afternoon next to a lake with some snacks and wine from a local family winery. It was pretty idyllic. Lots of luxurious grass, perfect temperature, and French ducks waddling around the lake saying qua-qua-qua. We relaxed near some trees that fed from a pleasant brook. The afternoon sun filtered through everything and gave it a warm, friendly murmur, and certainly the local wine helped lull us into bliss.

After a lazy day out in the countryside we headed back to Beaune, enjoying the landscape sweeping by.
Although we had lots of great times in France the countryside has stood out in the fondest light.
After our adventures in Beaune we took the rail to Geneva. Another day another page.
