Exploring Lake Siskiyou
Mt. Shasta > California > United States
After camping and exploring Shasta Lake I stocked up in the town of Mt. Shasta before heading up to Castle Lake for a couple of days. Minutes out of town Forest Route 26 (W.A. Barr Road) sidles along Lake Siskiyou for a ways before plunging into Shasta National Forest. So I grabbed this opportunity to take Windsong for a walk and check out the lake.
Fishing, Swimming, Sailing, Camping and Picnicking
Those seemed to be the favorite pasttimes of Lake Siskiyou. Near the junction of Ney Springs/Castle Lake Road and Route 26 is a parking lot. Walking trails depart from there. The surrounding hills are also rife with pleasant hiking trails. Around the far side of the lake are campgrounds for both RVs and tents, docks and slips for boats, and family-friendly beaches and picnic areas.
Besides the sunny serenity of the lake, a couple of ladies showed me a hidden nook at the southernmost tip of the lake where a drainage pipe pours mountain fresh water into a crystal-clear pool. The water was so clean compared to the fairly clean lake that I couldn’t resist jumping in!
