Mt. Waialeale by Helicopter
Kauai > Hawaii > United States
Waialeale to Hanapepe
Mt. Waialeale is the southern wall of Hanalei Valley. Most of the time it hovers somberly in the hazy clouds like a fortress with walls dropping thousands of feet to the jungle floor. We skimmed the sheer cliffs and headed south through a valley. The verdant lava fields are sliced in places by rivers, and one that stands out just slightly is Mana Waipuna Falls. Made famous by the opening helicopter scenes of Jurassic Park, Mana Waipuna is sheer eye candy.
Mana Waipuna Waterfall
The falls sits amongst many waterfalls in the southern slopes of Mt. Waialeale. It's pretty stunning as the water spreads over the rocks in its descent.
Back to Hanapepe
The last views as we descend are Waimea and the wide expanses of the southern slopes. What did we learn from all this? The helicopter tour is Da Kine. Everybody does it and you wouldn't want to be uncool, RIGHT? Lots of tours are available on the island nowadays. Have fun!
