The London Eye was awesome, the panoramic view simply amazing. I had to shoot through an inch of plexiglas but the view made up for it, even if the photos didn't come out too well. The drive mechanism is very smooth and continuous. Possible improvements: windows or sliding panels so you can take an open-air ride. This would also yield better photos too.

If you're familiar with London you can point out most of the main architectural landmarks like Parliament, Charing Cross Station looking very spider-like, and Trafalgar Square close by, St. Paul's Cathedral and Battersea Power Station in the distance.
The experience of the London Eye is of rising very slowly as the capsule begins at the bottom of the circle and heads out more than up. The view doesn't really begin til about the first 90°.
Lots of amazing history available with sight...
Ascending and descending offer different views and experiences, of rising over a corner of the city, being at the zenith in a bubble high over the city, then descending over another section of the city.
